Statement of Faith

I trust in God the Creator. The beauty and complexity of this world and its great diversity within an interconnected whole; for me serves not only as intellectual evidence for the existence of God but also inspires me to enact with the world and with God in loving relationship.

I trust in God the Savior. God came to earth as our Savior, Jesus of Nazareth. This Savior is our Christ and the Messiah foretold in the Hebrew Scriptures. Jesus came to show us the true nature of God, a nature that is not bound by the legalities of law, but a nature which strives to make individuals and the church a fountain of love, forgiveness and of ministry to all people.

I trust in God the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit connects us to God. This is the presence of God that we feel, the one who strengthens us, listens to us, speaks to us, prods us and comforts us. The Holy Spirit is evidenced by the fruit of the Spirit in our lives and demonstrated by the community of love within the church.

I believe the Church should always strive to be the expression of God’s loving grace in the world. Through forgiveness and acceptance, our carefully honed church order can guide us to act toward each other with love and justice. The church should strive to be a powerful vehicle for spreading God’s love and justice and it can act as a prophetic voice when we fail to treat each other as unique and wonderful creations of God.

I believe that the Scriptures are the unique and authoritative witness of God’s influence in the world. Even though the understanding of humankind is always incomplete, Scripture is a true guide for faith and a reminder of the loving grace of our God for humanity.

I believe that the sacraments of Communion and Baptism are a means of grace. When our brokenness creates alienation from God and others, the sacraments can offer us regular opportunities for forgiveness and reconciliation with God, others and ourselves. It is through this reconciliation that we can again demonstrate the mysterious and enduring nature of divine self sacrificial love. Thanks be to God!
