There is a time for everything, but there is always a time for poetry. Here are some of my original poems, shared for your enjoyment.
My ten favorite things
by REVEREND KAREN FITZ LA BARGE, published in catapult magazine
YHWH.
My daughter’s laughter.
A book that opens new possibilities.
My husband’s embrace of love and commitment.
Worship that resonates in the chamber of my soul.
Sunlight glazing the wave tops.
The arch in a horse’s neck.
Eyes filled with trust.
Going fast.
Chocolate.
Mobius
Inside, Outside. All around the Back Side, Front Side, Inside Out.
Feelings of the Inside, expressed on the Outside.
Feelings on the Inside, fear and doubt.
Acting from the Inside. Reacting to the Outside.
Never pausing to think, what’s life about?
Changing all the inside.
To effect all on the outside.
Changing from the inside.
Inside Out.
Poem by Karen Fitz La Barge, 4/28/2000
The Heron
The blue-grey bird hewn from grey-blue rock, stands as a motionless sentry.
With prehistoric eye, it watches, it waits; patience is its birthright.
Dusky brow of discernment masks intent as careless shadows flit below.
The bristling beard marks the prey like a hundred sharpened fishhooks.
Balancing between sleep and predator; it strikes at once.
It swallows, cold fishy flesh descends.
Will its legs ever fatten?

Unleashing creativity, the embrace of the Holy empowers all possibilities.
Together our voices scream the death rattle of racist agonies.
For people are broken, and bite and tear each other into scraps,
rotting in the graves of our ancestors.
Yet from this rich soil, new life sprouts and grows…
if we water it.
if we grant it light and air.
if we do not carelessly squash it underfoot.
